Starla Nickel is a columnist and consultant. She currently writes the column "Back to Simple", a weekly piece published
in several Midwestern free community papers and small town weekly newspapers. Outside of writing, she owns a small consulting
business and works primarily with newspaper companies on advertising promotion design and sales training. She also works with
non-profit agencies on varied projects and fundraisers, and with a handful of different ag-based companies and agencies on
event planning and media design.
Starla was born and raised in Chadron, Nebraska, a town of around 5,500 located in the northern panhandle. After leaving
the area to pursue a career in newspaper management, she decided to return home to raise her children in a safe setting. This
career change has allowed her to spend more time with her children and family.
Her professional experiences include management of several newspapers and free community newspapers in Nebraska and Wyoming.
She is a graduate of Chadron State College, and continues her education with plans to complete her Master's in 2007, in addition
to completing the requirements for a real estate license. She serves as a volunteer with various committees and groups in
the Dawes County area.
